Spring is Here and So Are We

Spring is Here and So Are We

The flow from winter to spring is anything but smooth. Can you feel it?

I came across these statues a couple months ago, in the dead of cold, rainy winter, while I was in Paris at the Louvre. I looked at Winter and he looked back at me, and we grimly, wordlessy related.

Then, in a happy coincidence, I saw similar statues during a recent trip to Puerto Rico. I stopped in front of luscious Spring as she smiled upon me, and we both drank in the balmy sunshine and shared a giddy excitement for what was to come.

The contrast between these statues perfectly sums up the chaotic, tense transition we currently feel, within and without. Parts of us might still be in winter, stubborn and stagnant, clinging on to protection that is no longer needed. Other parts of of us are more current, and reaching into our (metaphorical) basket to make it rain flowers and joy. These parts are ready to party, and if a little wardrobe malfunction happens while dancing, so be it.

Do you feel these parts of yourself struggling for power within?

What happens when these two distinctly different, mighty, and full-bodied seasons are assigned to live as next door neighbors eternal? What happens within us when we are also roped into the wild ride that is the transfer of power between winter and spring?

Drama! Tension, contrast, and conflict.

Spring screams for full takeover while Winter struggles to keep his dwindling reign. Within us, a growing tension is felt between the contrast of self and other. What do I want, what do I need. What are my hopes, what are my goals.

How are we to resolve this tension and transform it so that it empowers instead of frustrates? How may we allow room for a beautiful, life serving selfishness to take hold?

A practice I created last month called ‘Flowing From Winter to Spring’ explores all of this and more. Although we are already in Spring, the energies we meditate on are still very relevant:

Description:

As winter flows into spring, nature undergoes a transition that is also mirrored within us. If you have been feeling tense, irritable, or even angry, it may be because the seasons are moving through you as well!

This is a practice that will leave you with a smoother, more grounded sense of connection to not just your being, but the being of Nature as well. Happy almost spring!

Happy Spring indeed 🌸🌦
